Best Places for Breakfast In and Around Lake Geneva

Posted to Area Attractions & Events, Janis Hartley

The Christmas holidays are a great time to explore the best places to snag a true Wisconsin breakfast. Nothing like the full board to warm you up on a cold, winter’s morning! Below are a few of my favorites – feel free to add your own by commenting on this blog. I’d love to discover something new:

  • Egg Harbor Café, Downtown Lake Geneva – this well-known, North Shore restaurant packs both locals and visitors from Illinois. I love their bottomless cups of steaming coffee, the Veggie-White Dynamite omelet, and their unbelievable Pumpkin Pancakes that are available in the Fall. Good service and a staff with sunny dispositions make this egg-actly what you need first thing in the morning.
  • Daddy Maxwells, Hwy 67 Williams Bay – This spot is unbeatable in terms of hearty breakfasts (their French batter pancakes are “to die for”), friendly locals, and more choices in omelet’s than you can shake a pan at! Go early, especially in summer.
  • Millie’s, Hwy O in Delavan – Long a favorite with out-of-towners, my husband and I stopped going here because the waits were interminable; however, if you love Swedish pancakes or are celebrating a special day, this is definitely worth a visit. The adjoining shops are a delight – and it’s a good way to amuse the little ones while you wait for your table to clear.
  • Simple, Broad Street, Lake Geneva – The newest member of the “Broken Egg Brigade,” Simple is an extraordinary restaurant. Owners Tom and Lori Hartz have committed themselves and their restaurant to serving locally raised and produced food from sustainable sources. Try the Designer Omelet with mashed potatoes, artichokes, asparagus and Gruyere – it will make you weep with joy! Open for breakfast and lunch only…visit soon as the word is already out that this is the place for breakfast.
