If You Love Your Pets...
…please do me a favor, in honor of my Bichon Nikki’s 10th Birthday, please visit a very special place called The Lakeland Animal Shelter. Owned & operated by the Lakeland Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), a non-profit, tax exempt organization, the shelter is located 3 miles south of Elkhorn, Wisconsin on Highway 67. It’s open to the public 6 days a week, staffed by a combination of trained, dedicated employees & enthusiastic volunteers. Their goal is to provide temporary care to stray & abandoned animals and to seek good homes for their permanent adoption.
As volunteers you can walk dogs, foster kittens, drop off food & cleaning supplies (see Their WISHLIST) or make a cash donation. Donate Now on line at The Network for Good. The last time I was there I took home 2 kittens that had been fostered by a family in Elkhorn (after the 24 waiting period & application process). They encourage the “Buddy System”, when you adopt 2 animals at the same time, you get a discount & who can resist a sale!
Dogs & cats have been part of my life since I was a child. Nikki, my Birthday Boy, joined my daughter Kayla and me shortly after my divorce & he’s been a real trooper. Living first in a condo, then a small cottage & now a real house with a huge fenced in yard, which he now has to share with Rocky (8) and an annoying little sister Lexie (6 months). I know I’m crazy to have 3 dogs & 2 cats but they’re my family & they keep me sane. So my advice is, if you are “pet-less” or have room for one more, visit The Shelter & help them write another Success Story.
Happy Birthday Nick – I hope you are around for another 10!!

I enjoyed reading this. I too give to Lakeland Animal Shelter every month. No way I could adopt them all so it's my way of caring for them. If I knew that we'd be around town more I'd even donate time to care for the animals.. Thanks for sharing your info with me.... Candy
