Day 166 of 365 Things To Do in Lake Geneva, WI: Clean Sweep

Posted to 365 Things to Do in Lake Geneva, Geneva Lake Area

The Walworth County Public Works Department is conducting their Clean Sweep program on Friday, October 7th and Saturday, October 8th. The yearly program helps Walworth County residents dispose of unused and unwanted products that contain chemicals that are labeled caution, danger, warning or poison.

The program is free of charge to Walworth County household residents and no appointment is necessary. This is the time of year to check your garages, sheds and basements for products that have expired or are no longer needed. Dispose of pesticides, fertilizers, motor oil, varnish, stain and more. See Clean Sweep for a complete list of what items will be accepted.

Also being collected are outdated and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter items. Check your medicine cabinets and linen closets for pills, creams and syrups that have expired. You might be surprised at how many items you have in your house that have outlived their shelf life.

Since 1992 the Clean Sweep program has collected over 550,000 pounds of hazardous waste from county residents. Properly disposing of these items is an important part of keeping our county’s natural resources and ground water clean and uncontaminated.

Collections will be accepted Friday, October 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the City of Whitewater Public Works Complex located at 150 East Starin Road in Whitewater and on Saturday, October 8th from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Walworth County Public Works Department at W4097 County Road NN in Elkhorn.
