Lake Geneva Designated Bird City

Lake Geneva: designated Bird City in Wisconsin.
The City of Lake Geneva was designated a Bird City this past month. Bird City’s goal is “To encourage all communities in Wisconsin to implement sound bird conservation practices by offering public recognition to those that succeed in (a) enhancing the environment for birds and (b) educate the public about the interactions between birds and people and about the contributions birds make to a healthy community.”
Williams Bay, on the south shore of Geneva Lake was also named a Bird City, making the two municipalities the only ones named in Walworth County, joining 13 others throughout Wisconsin. Both communities documented how they improve bird habitat, manage woodlands, limit hazards to birds and educate citizens about environmental health. Each community received a plaque, white flag and two street signs.
The designation is one more indication of local citizens’ involvement and commitment to the high quality of life here in the Geneva Lake area.

This is great news. My mother has an interest in bird watching. In the past few years she has seen a decline in the number of birds & certain species that once inhabited her neighborhood. Birds play a huge part in our ecosystem and sharing the responsibility of individual involvement can contribute to a healthier environment for all of us.
