Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra Presents Performance and Exhibition

Posted to Area Attractions & Events

The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra will present a performance featuring Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition this Saturday evening, February 5, 2011 at Calvary Community Church at Highway 50 and Harris Road, Williams Bay.  The unique aspect of this performance is that it will feature a multi-media presentation and exhibition of artwork by Russian artist Viktor Hartmann and local students.

Composer Mussorgsky and artist Viktor Hartmann shared a love of authentic Russian art and music.  Hartmann’s sudden and untimely death prompted an exhibition of his work, which Mussorgsky attended.  Inspired by Hartmann’s art, he composed Pictures as an imaginary tour through a gallery.  Local students worked with Elizabeth Chappell, Director of the Lake Geneva Art Museum, to produce their own artwork while listening to Mussorgsky’s work.  Selected pieces will be on display before, during, and after the performance.

In addition to Pictures, the LGSO will also perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 as this year’s choice for its Beethoven Project, which commits the orchestra to playing one Beethoven symphony each year for nine years.  The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra is another fine example of the diversity of groups, activities and opportunities available in the Geneva lake area for residents and visitors alike.
