Badger High School in Lake Geneva Wins State Competition!

Badger High School in Lake Geneva has won the 2011 Wisconsin ProStart culinary competition held at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo.  This marks the fourth time in five years the team has taken first place, just missing  by .12 of a point to take second last year.  Two teams participated in the management category and the culinary category and each team won against a field of 23 schools and 100 students.  The culinary competition involved preparation of a three course meal in an hour, while the management competition featured a presentation of a business proposal for a new restaurant concept.  Food service industry professionals and college educators evaluated teamwork, presentation, skills and sanitation practices.  Both teams will advance to the National ProStart Invitational in May to vie for scholarships and recognition.  The Badger team won the national competition in 2008.

In order to raise money and improve their skills, the teams will prepare and serve the winning meal at Harry’s Café, 800 W. Main Street on Sunday, April 10, beginning at 5:30 pm with hors d’oeuvres and cash beverages.  A silent auction and drawings will round out the evening.  The cost is $35 per person and donations are always accepted.  Call 262-348-2000, ext 2338 for tickets or more information.

The Badger High School Culinary team is a great example of the result of the wide breadth of programs and coursework offered by the Lake Geneva Schools.  Badger serves a wide socio-economic spectrum and boasts state-of-the-art facilities to support all areas of preparation for life after high school, whether  in the workforce, military,  technical college or college.  The Lake Geneva schools are a proud testament to the community’s investment in the children of Lake Geneva.
