Day 79 of 365 Things To Do in Lake Geneva, WI: Memorial Day Parade

If asked, most people will tend to say that they celebrate Memorial Day as the official start of the summer season, or simply a long awaited three-day weekend. Memorial Day was in fact started in remembrance of the Union soldiers of the American Civil War and was later changed to encompass all Americans killed in action from all branches of the armed services.
One of the best known Memorial Day traditions, aside from the backyard barbeque, is the parade. Lake Geneva’s annual parade starts at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30th at the corner of Broad and Wisconsin and runs down Broad Street to the Riviera. The parade is followed by a short program at approximately 10:30 a.m. which includes several speakers as well as music from the Lake Geneva Middle School and High School bands.
The raising of a large American flag extended from the end of the ladder truck by the Lake Geneva Fire Department is always a solemn but powerful highlight of the morning.
Join your family and friends and venture into downtown Lake Geneva on Monday to celebrate the memory of those who gave their lives in the name of freedom.
