Day 56: Things to Do in Lake Geneva Wi 365 Days a Year - Visit Old World Wisconsin
Down a winding country road in Eagle, just 20 minutes northwest of Lake Geneva Wi., you’ll find the living history museum, Old World Wisconsin. Visitors to Old World Wisconsin experience vivid recreations of what in meant and felt like to live in the Heartland State over a hundred years ago. The outdoor museum is divided into several sites. There’s Crossroads Village where you’ll see 1870’s trades in action including the blacksmith, country store, and shoemaker. Always a favorite with schoolchildren, the One Room Schoolhouse offers a bird’s eye view of what it was like to attend school long before computers.
Hearkening back to the immigrants who moved to Wisconsin bringing their cultures and traditions, there are several “villages” well worth exploring: the Danish, German, African American, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish and Yankee areas present their culture’s gifts, talents, and influences. Old World Wisconsin is the perfect “teaching moment” for families. Whether you visit for a few hours or make it a day long outing, it will be a memorable outing.
This year, Old World is offering a Summer Camp and among the many “experiences” offered is a “Hooked on Laura” day camp. If your daughter loves Little House on the Prairie, this is one experience she won’t want to miss. Spots are still available, so check it out. For those teenagers who enjoy public speaking, the Old World Apprentice Camp may be just the thing to encourage their political or thespian interests. This is one of the most popular camps – so sign up now if your teen is interested in acting as an interpreter in one of Old World’s living history sites.Hearkening back to the immigrants who moved to Wisconsin bringing their cultures and traditions, there are several “villages” well worth exploring: the Danish, German, African American, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish and Yankee areas present their culture’s gifts, talents, and influences.
