DNR is going to be new and improved! They are considering a plan to completely overhaul the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in effort to improve customer service, business support and enhance the mission to protect our natural resources. Some of their goals for this two year Charter Agency Pilot Program are the following:

  • Establish various operational goals and identify ways to achieve them
  • Enhance customer satisfaction and assistance. Development of online permitting options and expand over-the-counter service
  • Improve cost-effectiveness, reduce duplicative systems, reduce overhead and operational costs
  • Improve management systems to reduce permit times for major air and water permits
  • Set uniform performance for staff and supervisors (consistency and accountability)

The DNR has many operational items on their agenda these are just a few.  The DNR will achieve these goals by:

  • Recruitment of high-performing employees by offering merit pay as a reward for excellence
  • Shift resources to areas where more staff is needed to remedy permit backlog
  • Greater utilization of technology to help the consumer with online information and permit processing
