Day 130 of 365 Things To Do in Lake Geneva, WI: Swim for Freedom
The 3rd Annual Swim for Freedom will take place this Sunday, August 7th on Geneva Lake. Participants will be swimming to raise funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
Sign in will run from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. at Gordy’s Boat House in Fontana. Swimmers will be transported to the Lake Geneva Beach, where the swim will begin at 6:00 a.m. Individuals and relay teams will swim a buoyed eight mile course to the Fontana Beach.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation was formed in 1980 to provide college educations to the 17 children that lost a parent during the Iranian hostage rescue attempt. It has since grown to encompass all Special Operations Forces, and their mission is to provide a college education to every child who has lost a parent while serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine Corp. Special Operations whether the death occurred during an operation or training mission.
As of April 2011, approximately 160 children of fallen special operations warriors have graduated from college. Please consider either coming out to the beaches on Sunday in support of the swimmers, or making a donation to the foundation.
Keefe Real Estate has two agents from their Lake Geneva office that are swimming on Sunday. We wish them both a safe swim across the lake.
