Day 158 of 365 Things To Do in Lake Geneva, WI: Nearby Hiking Trails
With the weather starting to cool off this is the perfect time of year to hike and explore the areas surrounding Lake Geneva. Fortunately, we not only have a wonderful State Park right here in Lake Geneva, but we also have some of the most beautiful trails in the state.
Big Foot Beach State Park is located on the south shore of Geneva Lake just south of the downtown Lake Geneva area. This park offers a number of trails with varied lengths, the longest being a loop around the park that is just short of six miles. The terrain is easy to navigate so it is perfect for hiking with family. Enjoy nice picnic areas, a playground and the beach area on the lake.
The John Muir trails of the South Kettle Moraine State Park vary from 1.5 miles to 10.5 miles with options for all hikers regardless of your level of experience. The trails run through prairies and woodlands and offer beautiful views of the Kettle Moraine area.
The Ice Age Trail is the longest running trail in the State of Wisconsin. It offers the more seasoned hiker a rugged trail through the outskirts of the last continental glacier in Wisconsin.
The trail winds over 1,100 miles from Interstate State Park in Minnesota to Potawatomi State Park on Lake Michigan, and is one of only eight National Scenic Trails.
Richard Bong State Recreation Area offers over 4,500 acres containing trails for hiking, cross country skiing, biking, horseback riding and ATVs. The park is made up of prairie and wetlands with a few small but steep hills. It also contains Wolf Lake that is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. Trails are primarily mowed grass.
Plan to visit the area and make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes.
