Apple fun facts!
Did you know…?
- Commercial orchards are found in 46 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties, comprising about 7,400 acres and producing about 56 million pounds of fruit worth over $9 million per year.
- The average field is 9,500 pounds per acre. Most of the commercial acreage is found in four locations in the state. The most concentrated areas are Gays Mills in Crawford County (1,500 acres), Door County area (2,000 acres), Bayfield County and in the greater Milwaukee area.
- If you grew 100 apples from the seeds of one tree, they would all be different! Each has its own genetic material.
- The pilgrims brought apples to North America in 1620. Apples have five seed pockets with a seed in each pocket.
- The biggest apple pie weighted 30,116 pounds.
- There are 2500 varieties of apples grown nationwide.
- Americans eat about 19.6 pounds or 65 fresh apples every year. In addition, Americans eat the total consumption of 42.2 total pounds per year of processed apples (i.e. apple sauce, dried apples, etc)
- Apples float because 25% of an apple’s volume is air.

Head to the Apple Barn Orchard and Winery this weekend 10 a.m. to 4 p.m! Bring the whole family, your friends, and a wagon to fill with your picks of apples and pumpkins. If you don’t want to venture out and pick your own, pick up a bag of apples in the Apple Barn!
Saturday’s entertainment schedule:
- 1-2 p.m: Walworth County Cloggers
- 2-4 p.m: Pat Jones, guitarist
- 1-4 p.m: Tim Glander, balloon magician
Sunday’s entertainment schedule:
- 11-1p.m: Music by The Dots
- 1-2 p.m: Walworth County Cloggers
- 1-4 p.m: Tim Glander, balloon magician
Grab a brat or hot dog with chips and a drink, enjoy the entertainment, get your Apple Barn cookbook, watch your children make new memories with the face painting, arts & crafts, tree maze, inflatable jump/slide, free rides through the Orchard, and be there for the opening of the pumpkin patch to pick the seasons perfect pumpkin.
