Is a Bald Woman Beautiful?

Shave, Brave, Save - Three Ways to Save a Life

I was inspired this weekend by my cousin, Tina Bahlow. She decided to participate in the 'Shave' part of Shave, Brave, Save and went under the clippers to shave her head this past Saturday, September 24th. She raised over $1,900 and was really excited and honored to be a part of such a great event that directly supports the MACC Fund and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin!

She decided to do this in memory of her cousin, Zachary Bahlow, who passed away in 1995, at the age of 3, from a terminal brain tumor.

I'm not going to lie, there's a part of me that was a little scared and nervous for her about shaving her head (and she was a bit unsure about what she’d look like BALD!!), but she only had to think about what these kids and their families have to face and what they go through, and  then shaving her head didn't really seem so scary after all. She said it best “It’s just hair…it will grow back.” As you can see by her before & after photos, she looks beautiful bald.

I knew I wasn’t brave enough to shave my head for no donations, so I did my small part of donating blood for the Blood Center.  My daughter and her friend signed up for the bone marrow registry. So, in a way, we all were trying to “Pay it forward” this weekend for the children and their families who suffer with childhood cancer. My hope is that with the money earned, the MACC Fund and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin can continue their efforts in finding cures for these tiny cancer patients.

What would it take for you to shave your head for charity? As I was fixing my own hair this morning, I thought of Tina fondly, as she will now enjoy an extra half hour of sleep. If I get the opportunity in the future to raise money for a charity, I would definitely consider shaving my head for the cause. Katrina Cravey of Fox News6 covered Tina’s story on Real Milwaukee this morning on channel 6 at 9am CST, she was the emcee at the MACC Fund event Saturday. Many did their part just by showing up and purchasing food & items, with proceeds also going to the MACC Fund. In a fight this large, everyone’s small part helps. So, I ask again, what would you do for a charitable cause? Please share this story & your comments.
