Darien Wisconsin Annual Cornfest

Posted to Area Attractions & Events, Geneva Lake Area

This weekend September 9th through September 11th is Cornfest in Darien, Wisconsin. For those not acquainted with this annual event, it is a time to celebrate the corn harvest and the local Walworth County WI farms that grow this sweet Golden delicacy!!

The celebration kicks off this coming Friday evening with Little Miss Corn Fest,  Live music, crafts, carnival, baseball tournaments, cold beverages and fireworks! As Friday rolls into Saturday the events on tap: tractor pulls, clogging, zumba, Corn eating contest, game of Hammerschagen, [easier to play than to say], volleyball, baseball tournaments, and live music until midnight. There is free corn served both Saturday and Sunday from 11-3...that’s right. Free!!

Sunday September 11th will have a very special added ceremony this year to honor the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. Starting at noon in the Darien Fire Station, located at 311 Madison Street in Darien, Wisconsin; right inside the Darien Park where Cornfest is held. There will be a flag ceremony, color guard, and music played by the Janesville Fife and Drum. Local scouts, fireman and legion members will be attending this special ceremony to honor the fallen heroes and to remember this life changing event in history.

Following the 9/11 ceremony the Darien Cornfest parade begins! It starts at 1 p.m., and winds through the streets of Darien and ends at the park. The festivities continue with corn, music, Bingo, and the annual auction that is fun and animated with Darien’s local celebrity, Ron Bigelow and his sidekicks, running this anxiously awaited event!

Cornfest is celebrating its 51st year this year, it is a small town festival that is fun for all ages, and a definite must do this weekend in the Geneva lakes area.  Darien, Wisconsin is located 18 miles west-ish from Lake Geneva, or about 25 minutes! Come on out and enjoy!! You won’t be disappointed!
