Lake Country Market
In the Lauderdale Lakes area, the closest place you’ll come across for the necessities of making a meal can be found at the Lake Country Market. Located between Kenosha Drive and Wisconsin Drive on Hwy 12, Lake Country Market is your destination to shop for and dine on locally raised and natural farm fresh foods.
The farm was the inspiration for the Lake Country Market where they are committed to raising and delivering the healthiest farm fresh food possible. They raise their livestock on natural pastures that they plant and manage on over 150 acres of farmland in East Troy, Wisconsin. The animals are not given antibiotics, hormones, or chemical growth promotants. The Lake Country Market sells their hay to a local dairy that sells its milk to the Wisconsin Cheese plant that makes the cheese that they buy for their Market Pizzas.
On a chilly day, like many that we will be having soon, stop by Lake Country Market for a bowl of soup or chili! They also have daily lunch specials available with homemade breads, wine, cheese and prepared meals!
With new fall hours, Lake Country Market is open Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For properties available down the road from Lake Country Market, please see our website.

TLC - Professional Cleaning
The properties on Keefe Resort Rentals program are well taken care of by our professional cleaning company, TLC. Family owned and operated, TLC opened their doors in 1984 when the owner, Coralie Recob, a stay-at-home-mom and bookkeeper came to a crossroad. Coralie states, “Computers had come into existence. I was afraid of them, therefore, I thought to myself ‘what can I do besides be a bookkeeper?’ Well, I’m Dutch and I know how to clean…so VOILA! TLC was born.”
When a guest books a reservation with Keefe Resort Rentals, TLC is immediately aware of the new reservation. TLC prepares the property with a detailed arrival check insuring the property meets the high standards we offer to all our Keefe Resort Rental guests. After a guest departure, one of TLC’s management personnel does a detailed departure check for Keefe Resort Rentals. Then within a few hours, the property will be cleaned from top to bottom and ready for the next guest.
During a stay at any of our Keefe Resort Rental properties, TLC is available to all our guest for mid-stay cleans. TLC will customize cleaning to the specific needs of the guests to clean a specific area or do a full clean of the whole house/property.
TLC does not have a set rate sheet, as many of the homes they clean differ from the next. With over 20 staff members at one time during the slow season, and over 40 during the high season, minor handyman repair, window washing, commercial, residential, and construction cleans, TLC is up for any job; give them a call today!

River Valley Ranch and Kitchens
Just eight miles east of beautiful Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, on the way to Powers Lake off Hwy 50, sits a barn with mushrooms painted all over it. They have a sign out front that tells you to stop wondering and come in. When you pass it, there is another telling you to turn around and go back. Have you ever listened to these signs and actually gone in what I call the “Mushroom Barn?”
The Mushroom Barn is actually called River Valley Ranch and Kitchens. Good food has been their business since 1976. Open 364 days a year (closed on Christmas Day), they offer healthfully grown mushrooms, picked daily, along with seasonal fresh produce. They have an entire line of artisan-quality, handcrafted foods and a wide variety of locally produced goodies including portabella and swiss brats, fine quality chesses, the very best bacon, gourmet popcorn, and seasonally available, their "Grow at Home Mushroom Kits."
Placing an emphasis on superior quality, River Valley Kitchens is committed to producing the healthiest and freshest possible products. They do not use any chemical preservatives or thickeners in their products and feel that the freshness of the ingredients shines. If you decide to visit the farm, they will show off their kitchen facility where their dedicated staff prepares each recipe and packs each jar by hand.
If you’ve crammed your vacation full of other things to do, forget to stop by, want to check out the River Valley Ranch and Kitchen before heading back out to the Geneva Lakes area, you can always shop online or find them at local farmers markets! You won’t regret it!!

SMILES!

SMILES (Special Methods in Learning Equine Skills, Inc) was founded in 1985 to offer therapeutic and recreational horsemanship lessons to children and adults with disabilities. Based out of Darien, Wisconsin, with over 300 dedicated volunteers, SMILES serves over 400 individuals per year.
With stalls and the 35-acres for as many as 20 horses, there is an extensive 60-day training period for each horse. Only those that show the required patience and tolerance for the type of work they are required to show are accepted into the program. All of the horses are kept outside as much as possible so as to be apart of their natural environment as much as possible. Outside there are 3 pastures and 2 hayfields, along with outdoor shelter, plenty of good hay, and automatic water-feeders. Many of the horses are donated by the owners who are always welcome back into the barns to visit!
Throughout the year, SMILES has events to help raise money for the non-profit. This year, the most popular benefit for SMILES was the Anchor’s Away benefit. At the beginning of the year, 100 fiberglass boats in two different styles, a sailboat and Chris Crafts, were decorated by local and national artists. Throughout the year, the decorated boats were showcased around the area in Walworth County.
This Sunday, September 25, 2011, during the final day of the International Boat Show at The Abbey Resort and Spa’s Pavilion, there will be a public auction. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the SMILES non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The event is open to the public with a $10 donation for admission.

If you’d like to bid online for one of the beautiful and amazingly decorated 60-80 pound fiberglass boats, or if you’d like to take a look at the different artwork provided by the local and national artists, please visit the website at: artforsmiles.org.

Lakes Area Rental
You’ve made reservations for a family reunion with just over 20 of your extended family members with Keefe Resort Rentals in the Lake Geneva area for a week. You arrive to the property earlier than anyone else to make sure everything is in place, and start to prepare the meals and snacks for the week. One-by-one, the other family members start to arrive at the lake. The excitement starts to build as your mother tells you your cousin, Katie, is coming with her two-year-old, Wyatt, and 6-month old baby, Ellie! Growing up, you and Katie were very close, and you haven’t seen her in four years. To see her again, her kids for the first time, and to catch up with her will make this family reunion that much more enjoyable.
You’re almost through preparing the snacks and some meals for the week when a car pulls into the driveway. Your cousin steps out of the car and you run out to help her with the little ones! Wyatt is very whinny and needs his afternoon nap, while Ellie is as sweet as can be, sucking her little thumb and is noticeably hungry from the car ride to the lake. While helping Katie take her items into the house for the week, she realizes she doesn’t have a place for the kids to sleep or a highchair for them to eat in. Having kids yourself, you understand the importance of having these items for small children.
Not even knowing where to start, you remember the reservation specialist telling you when you booked the property to call the Keefe Resort Rentals office if you needed ANYTHING. You do so and the woman kindly gives you information for Lakes Area Rental who will rent and deliver a crib and a highchair for the week.
Katie is relieved she doesn’t have to make the three hour trip home or to the store to buy anything; you’re relieved the woman at Keefe Resort Rentals had information on such an odd request. Now, Wyatt and Ellie will be able to sleep in beds on their own and eat where they’re more independent. Thank you Lakes Area Rental!

Minnesota wildfires
If you’re in between northeastern Minnesota and the southeastern part of Wisconsin – look outside. Do you see a hazy and smoky skyline? If you go outside, do you smell smoke? It’s too early for the smell of burning leaves, isn’t’ it?
Wildfires, caused by lightening on August 18 near Ely, Minnesota, are what have caused the smoke smell and dreary skylines. Due to a mix of a strong cold front from Canada and unseasonably dry warm conditions the last few days, the fire has spread to more than 60,000 acres and carried the smoke as far south as Chicago, IL in the last day!

Airplanes and helicopters are being used to drop water to slow the spread of the fire; however, the air quality throughout Wisconsin over the next few days may be greatly affected. Depending on how soon the fire gets under control will depend on how soon the air quality improves. Small children and elderly with cardiac or respiratory issues should be extra cautious.

Beauty in disguise
About a month and a half ago, I walked past the same shrub I pass every morning and evening and noticed something that I hadn’t ever noticed before; a Black and Yellow Argiope; otherwise known as a Black and Yellow Garden Spider.
The Argiope will not hurt or bite humans unless their web is being messed with; and after looking at this, why would one want to upset such an innocent insect?

Nestled up-side-down on her orb-like web, this Black and Yellow Argiope found a place out of the wind but in the sunlight to catch her prey. About an inch long, she was busy at work on her sticky web to trap any flying insects. Her web took up most of one side of the shrub. It was amazing! Apparently, each night, the Argiope will eat their web and build a new one. I noticed the same web every morning and evening for at least 2 weeks.
After noticing her, about a week and a half later, I noticed there was a sac of eggs on the right side of the web. Over a thousand eggs could be inside!! After laying the eggs, the female Argiope will die. The baby spiders will hatch from their eggs in the fall, but will stay inside the sac for most of the winter. In the spring, the young spiders will go on their own!
Being the most active during the daytime, I hope the Argiope’s predators – birds, some species of wasps, and lizards – leave this web alone so there are thousands of other harmful beautiful spiders to see next year too!

God Bless America!

Sunday is the tenth anniversary of one of the worst terrorist attacks on the United States of America since Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. If you ask any American, they will more than likely be able to tell you details of September 11, 2001, as everyone has their own story of this dreadful day in history. Nearly 3,000 innocent people died in jet attacks into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania, as well as service members who have lost their lives in the two wars that followed.
Over 32,000 Wisconsin military members have served in the Global War on Terrorism. According to the United States Department of Defense, at the peak of the conflict in Iraq, the United States military had more than 150,000 troops deployed throughout the country. At the present time, over a year after President Obama officially announced the end of the combat operations, U.S. troops in Iraq have been operating as advise and assist teams. Assisting Iraqi security forces will help keep the operations throughout the country more stable than they’ve ever been!
Whether you have big plans this weekend with family and friends, or you’re taking it easy enjoying a weekend off of work, raise your flag, thank a member of the military or law enforcement, hug the ones near and dear to you, and God Bless America!

How did you spend your last weekends of summer?
Last weekend, 13 friends and I decided to go canoeing down the Fox River. It was a gorgeous day and with the planning all taken care of. All we needed to bring was our coolers packed with food and drinks so we could be on our way on our five-hour trip down stream. With the help of a party bus, transportation by First Choice Limousine’s and Tip A Canoe LLC, we were on our way down the river by 10:30 that Saturday morning.
![]() |
The smells, sounds and sights were just breathtaking! The weather was beautiful with the sun shining and a light breeze coming through the trees and fields on each side of the river. The water temperature was perfect if our group decided to beach the canoes and swim a bit, splash the other canoes going down the river, or heaven forbid, tip a canoe! (What a great name for a canoe rental company!)
The delightful smells from the surrounding fields, trees, and wild flowers added to the peacefulness of the river. With colorful turtles, a few types and sizes of fish, a couple deer, at least 10 different types of birds - to include a bald eagle and even your average fisherman all in view, it reminded me of what summer is really all about!
The sounds of birds chirping, fish jumping out of the water warning others of the canoes coming down stream, the water trickling through the rocks in the river, and a breeze blowing through the trees, and the occasional sound of friends splashing one another reminded me of how relaxing nature can really be. When did life become so go, go, go?
Floating down the river in a canoe on a beautiful Wisconsin day with good friends beside me is definitely how I’ll spend many more weekends for summers to come.

Visit I Love Funky's
If you haven’t stepped into I Love Funky’s downtown Lake Geneva location, you are missing an amazing experience! Funky’s takes antiques and eclectic to a whole new level, featuring unique pieces from all over the world. On my first visit, I headed up the stairs and emerged onto a landing that could very well be another dimension – surrounded by global antiquities from all sides, the sense of ages past and layers of history revealed itself in impressive and magnificent architectural treasures, furniture and fixtures mingled with exquisite expressions of time in a variety of forms.
Funky’s definitely offers something for everyone, including plenty of inspiration! Besides the “Museum quality antiques. Grand architectural salvage…” you can find vintage jewelry, distinctive women’s clothing, and even gourmet treats. Let your imagination run wild and free through this nexus of creativity and design and find out why people are saying “I Love Funky’s!”

Roses Fresh Market
![]() |
| Photo courtesy of Roses Fresh Market |
A brand new neighborhood grocer has opened in the heart of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin! Roses Fresh Market promises “a fresh approach to honest food at honest prices” and that is exactly what I’ve found on my three visits thus far. Roses features local and organic – produce, prime meats, dairy, seasonal fruit like Michigan blueberries, musk melon, & heirloom tomatoes, a very impressive selection of wine, craft beer, and liquor, and an amazing array of cheeses – plus the prices are kind to the wallet.
On my lunch break I picked up a delicious fresh spinach salad and a generous side of juicy white musk melon all for $3; the most expensive item on my shopping list was goji and blueberry juice that I splurged on. Friendly and helpful staff is close at hand and open to suggestions, and the market’s atmosphere is light and energetic. Just three blocks from the lake and open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. – stop in today!

Intelligentsia Direct Trade Coffee
Did you know that coffee is better in season, just like fruits and vegetables? Have you ever enjoyed a cup of coffee that tastes great even as it cools off? Have you heard of Direct Trade? Stop by Lake Geneva’s newest hotspot -Boatyard Bagels- and treat yourself to a cup of Intelligentsia fresh roasted coffee, or a specialty espresso drink crafted from Intelligentsia’s Black Cat Espresso – one of the top five in the nation. Intelligentsia prides itself on offering fresh, in-season coffee that is a “true collaboration” with their farmers, “sourcing the best green coffee through direct relationships with farmers that care as much about what they are doing as we do.”
Each single origin coffee is prominently featured on Intelligentsia’s website. Boatyard Bagels features their Boat Yard Blend, hand selected and roasted in small batches by Intelligentsia’s Chicago Roasting Works. My current favorite is an unbelievably smooth coffee from San Jose, Nicaragua…stop in and have your specialty cup brewed for you on the spot to accompany a hand-crafted organic bagel sandwich (breakfast all-day)!

Rentals - Walworth County Upscale rental options are available!
Relocating from another part of the country? Maybe the move you are making is from an apartment to a single family home, and you are not sure you want all the responsibility. Could it be that you would like to buy, but your credit still needs some work? Whatever the reason you want to rent instead of buy – there are options available.
How can I view some of the rentals choices? That is an easy one – just check out the Keefe website under rentals. You will see an up-to-date list of what we still have available for long term leasing. There are single family homes and condos in a variety of areas that include Elkhorn, Fontana, Geneva National, Williams Bay, and Lake Geneva. Not seeing anything that suits your needs? I do customized searches to find the right fit for you.
In addition to those opportunities – there are some sellers out there that might consider a lease with option or land contract for those folks that have money down. You will want to contact a real estate professional to navigate your way down that avenue.
As always – I am available for you to tap my 18 years of experience via email, text or call seven days a week.

Venture to the LaGrange General Store!
![]() |
| Photograph courtesy of LaGrange General Store |
Another hidden gem of Walworth County, a visit to the LaGrange General Store is an adventure all its own! Don’t let its humble outward appearance trick you - this cozy store wears many hats! It’s a café/deli that offers amazing healthy and delicious sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, and desserts; an outdoor rental gear service providing outdoor sporting equipment for all four seasons; and a country boutique offering unique gifts, clothing, and accessories. The store is 1.5 miles from the John Muir Trail, Nordic Trail, and seven miles from the Emma Carlin Trail, so grab your bike or rent one on site; stop in for lunch or take it to go. The General Store is a great place to relax after time on the trails, and is definitely one of the Geneva Lake’s area’s best kept secrets! Located in the Kettle Moraine at the corner of Hwy 12 and Country H. View their Lunch Menu & get Directions. Find information regarding the Southern Kettle Moraine Trails.

Walworth County's Hidden Gem!

Located just north of Lake Geneva in the East Troy area is the beautiful Lake Beulah – an 812 acre wooded, spring-fed lake that enjoys a relatively anonymous and peaceful existence in the Kettle Moraine, tucked away from the bustle and business of the city. Many a serene summer’s day can be spent on Beulah’s shores; the clear waters make it a perfect lake for swimming, fishing, and boating, and the residential atmosphere offers quiet and relaxation.
It isn’t just by chance Lake Beulah has pure waters and a protected environment – in 1894 the residents of the area formed the Lake Beulah Protective & Improvement Association in order to ensure “general improvement and protection of Lake Beulah and the streams and waters adjacent thereto [1] The LBPIA has continued to the present day, and their website speaks to an entire community that acknowledges the intimate relationship each individual life and homestead has on the entire environment – and the great potential for help or harm when our lives are set upon a watershed, an area of land where surface water converges to a single point and joins another waterbody [2]. In this day-in-age many of us use harsh chemicals, weed killers and fertilizers in our homes and gardens without realizing that these chemicals seep into the earth and into the ground water – affecting the entire cycle of life. Residents of the Lake Beulah, Geneva lake, and surrounding lakes area are fortunate to have volunteer associations and conservancy groups, such as the Geneva Lake Environmental Agency, Geneva Lake Conservancy, Lauderdale Lakes Improvement Association among others, that dedicate their time to research, education, and the implementation of methods to protect and nurture our beautiful, natural treasures. Have extra time on your hands? Want to contribute your time to a worthwhile activity that benefits your local community? The Geneva Lake Conservancy offers many volunteer opportunities for this summer!
No doubt, Lake Beulah’s quiet presence and the LBPIA have contributed to its desirable qualities as a wonderful destination for your family’s summer vacation. Time spent on shores of this natural sanctuary promise renewal and inspiration; a chance to enjoy sweet rest and draw creativity from the deeply-respected waters and land. When planning your next stay to the area, don’t forget about the great sparkling waters of surrounding area lakes, such as this one. Geneva Lake is not the only gem in the area!

Become a Warrior!
![]() |
Ready to run, climb up cargo nets, step through hundreds of tires, wade through waist-high water and maneuver over logs? Itching to don a crazy warrior costume and navigate uncharted forests, crawl through tunnels, stumble through junk yards, and scramble through mud to claim the top prize? For the first time in Wisconsin, the Warrior Dash will be held locally in Twin Lakes! Surprise your friends and family (and maybe yourself!) and blaze a trail alone or grab a group of fellow warriors and tackle this 3.08 mile extreme race held on the Country Thunder fairgrounds, September 17 and 18, 2011.
![]() |
Since 2009 this race has been held in over 35 locations all over the United States and internationally, drawing up to 25,000 participants and over 30,000 spectators per event. The dash partners with Green Sneakers – a nationwide charity organization that works to keep sneakers out of landfills. They clean and renew the shoes and help distribute them to needy feet in underprivileged areas around the world. You can run the race and then donate your “warrior” foot-gear and help fight the battle against bare feet in impoverished countries. Don’t want to run the race? Don’t worry! You can still take part in the warrior festivities as a spectator, and join in the music and revelry post-dash. But, if you do want to test yourself have your moment of jumping over fire towards the finish line, then hurry to register – final deadline is September 6, 2011.

You’ve been planning this trip to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for months! You’re headed out the door, kids in tow, bags packed in the car. Excitement floods each smiling face waiting for the summer vacation to begin. At this point, you think nothing could be better than this and nothing can go wrong…
Then you arrive at the vacation home you rented through Keefe Resort Rentals. It is absolutely perfect! In fact, better than the reservation specialist had described to you. You begin to wonder, “Who do I call?” or “What doctor is going to see Timmy here in the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin?” or “Am I going to have to dip into the vacation spending money for a cast for Timmy’s ankle?” Everything is a MESS!

Then you remember… You purchased the traveler’s insurance offered through Keefe Resort Rentals. And suddenly Travel Guard is to the rescue finding you the nearest physician, getting you directions to the doctor’s office or hospital and even taking care of the payments. Soon Timmy is back, up and running. The vacation is back on track. What a save from Travel Guard! Good thing you purchased that insurance after all.

Super Bowl Sunday-Lake Geneva

Super Bowl weekend is creeping up upon us here in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. Local businesses have been promoting the Green and Gold with signs of “GO PACK GO!” and available apparel to support the Green Bay team.
Whether you are a Packers or a Steelers fan, you should be planning to travel safe this weekend when headed out to your favorite Lake Geneva area pub or Super Bowl party. Though the snow has stopped piling on the drifts, roads are still not completely safe. Here are a few tips to remember while traveling on the salty snow covered roads.
- Make sure to clear off your vehicle: this includes your license plates, head/tail lights, windows and body of car.
- Lower your speeds for the current weather conditions.
- Pay attention to your vehicle and how it reacts to snow, ice, winds and the way it stops.
- Leave extra room for breaking in between you and the car ahead.
- Watch for ice on and under overpasses/bridges.
- Having 4-wheel-drive is great but it does not mean that your vehicle is great on ICE: acknowledge that the other cars on the road may not have 4-wheel-drive and react differently to the snowy conditions.
- Look farther ahead than you normally do to allow yourself more reaction time to what is coming and make better judgments.
- Trucks are heavier than cars and thus need more time to stop.
- Last but never least: Don’t Drink and Drive!! Have a designated driver for your Sunday night activities! Also, do not be on the phone talking or texting while driving in this wintery weather; you need your full attention on the road to make it home safe.
Have a great weekend! Stay warm and drive safe! Go Pack Go!

Keefe Rentals-Winterfest in Lake Geneva 2011

Lake Geneva offers many things to do year ‘round! You can enjoy the National Snow Sculptures Competition in downtown Lake Geneva this weekend as well as taking in the warmth of the local restaurants and shops. Be sure to dress warm with hats and mittens as this is an event that you will want to linger looking at all of the detail that the sculptors have put into their masterpieces.
With the fresh snow, you may also want to consider traveling just an extra 20 minutes north of Lake Geneva to the Kettle Moraine State Parks for skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling. For more information on activities near Elkhorn and Whitewater visit the Kettle Moraine website.

Put more Green in your Wallet – Even on Your Next Coffee Run in Lake Geneva!

Do you share in the coffee addiction with the rest of us? You may not realize but there are now great offerings that allow you to save on that daily expense. On average, 16 billion paper cups are used in the United States each year, according to www.aboutmyplanet.com. Just imagine how many trees had to be used to make each of those cups. A great way to save our earth from losing more trees and keeping more trash out of our dumps is to simply BYOM (bring your own mug). That’s right; bring your own coffee mug the next time you head to your favorite local coffee shop.
Many local shops are even rewarding those who do BYOM.
- Starbucks of Lake Geneva offers 10 Cents off
- Caribou Coffee of Lake Geneva offers 10 Cents off
- Geneva Java of Lake Geneva offers 20 Cents off
- Deakin Isle of Elkhorn offers a 25% discount

If you drank just one cup of coffee each day for a year and brought your own mug each time, you could save more than $30.00/year. For those who drink more than one cup a day… you could save even more! Be sure to cash in of the benefits of going green.
Be aware of your “foot print” in every aspect of your daily routine in the Lake Geneva area to help provide a cleaner and safer planet for future generations. From recycling paper during the holidays, turning your heat down a few degrees in the winter or simply BYOM in the morning for your coffee runs can pave the way to a happier environment and have a fund at the end of the year to treat yourself to something extra. You’ll have a great morning knowing you did your part!

Holiday Food Afterthoughts
Many of us share favorite pastimes of the holidays that involve 2 things: family and FOOD. This tradition of cramming in the feasts in 2 days doesn’t have to be such. Why not continue to have the occasion of food shared between family and friends after the holiday rush? What better time to put those leftovers to good use. Below are a few of our favorite recipes which are both quick and easy but also make use of the common main entrée leftovers of ham, turkey and chicken.
Cheesy Ham and Broccoli Crescent Braid

1 1/2 cups cooked ham, chopped
1 cup fresh broccoli florets, cut into bite-size pieces
1 tablespoon dried parsley
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough (I used the Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine ham, broccoli, parsley, mustard and cheese. Stir well. (I actually found it was easiest to use my hands and mix everything up to evenly distribute the mustard and parsley.)
Unroll the crescent roll dough and arrange flat on an 11X17 baking sheet. Pinch together perforations to form a single sheet of dough (adapt or eliminate this step if using the Recipe Creations or using homemade bread/crescent dough). Using a knife or scissors, cut one inch wide strips in towards the center, starting on the long sides. There should be a solid strip about 3 inches wide down the center, with the cut strips forming a fringe down each side. Spread the filling along the center strip (it will be piled high but the strips will reach over the mound of filling when it is braided). Fold the side strips over filling, alternating strips from each side and pressing them into the dough on the opposite side, forming a braid. Pinch or twist to seal.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until deep golden brown. Cut into slices and serve immediately.
BBQ Turkey Quesadillas
*Makes 4-5 large quesadillas
8 large burrito-size flour tortillas
2 cups shredded leftover cooked turkey
1/2 cup barbecue sauce, store-bought
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1 (3.5 ounce) can green chilies, drained
2 cups shredded cheese, my favorite combo is Monterey jack and sharp cheddar
Sour cream, salsa, avocados for serving
Preheat a griddle or skillet on the stovetop to medium heat. In a medium bowl, toss together the turkey, barbecue sauce and green chilies. Spread an equal amount of this mixture on four of the tortillas (or five if you are spreading it thinner and making more quesadillas). Sprinkle the green onions over the top of the mixture and then top with the shredded cheese. Top with a tortilla and place the quesadillas on the griddle or stovetop, cooking for about 2-3 minutes each side until the tortillas are golden brown and crisp and the filling is hot and cheese is melted.
Cream Cheese Chicken and Vegetable Soup

*Note: this recipe calls for already cooked chicken. I usually cook the chicken breasts in the Crockpot with a little chicken broth the morning I make this soup, but you could also go ahead and cook the chicken in the first step with the onions and other vegetables that cook together.
*Serves 4
2 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
2 stalks celery, diced
1/2 cup diced carrots (about 2 regular carrots or a handful of baby carrots)
3 cups chicken broth
2-3 potatoes, peeled and finely diced (I like to leave the peels on red potatoes, if using them)
1 cup milk (1% is my milk of choice)
4 tablespoons flour
1 (8 oz. package) regular or light cream cheese
2-3 (about 1 pound) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and diced
In a large pot, melt the butter and add the onion, garlic, celery and carrots. Sauté, stirring often, for 3-4 minutes, until the veggies are slightly tender and the onions are translucent. Add the chicken broth and potatoes. Bring the soup to a simmer and cook, partially covered, until the potatoes are tender, about 10 minutes. In a liquid measuring cup, vigorously whisk the flour and milk together until smooth. Whisk the mixture into the soup, stirring quickly, and cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, until the soup begins to thicken slightly. Stir often to ensure the soup doesn’t burn. Soften the cream cheese in the microwave until it is very soft/melty. I usually place the unwrapped cream cheese on a plate and microwave it for one minute at 30% power. I like it really, really soft so it doesn’t leave lumps in the soup. Add the cream cheese to the soup in small tablespoon-size pieces. Let the pieces sit in the soup and warm through then whisk or stir the soup until the cream cheese melts and mixes in well. Add the cooked chicken and heat through. Season the soup with salt and pepper. Serve.

A Golf Course Vacation Covered in Wintery White Wisconsin!
Why would you want rent a vacation property in a golf resort community… in the dead of a Wisconsin winter? Here are a few reasons why it could prove to be a great stay!

1.) Geneva National Resort Community in Lake Geneva now offers cross country ski equipment rentals along with a few snow shoe rentals in the winter months. Simply check them out at the Resort Pro Shop and be on your way to the fresh snow of the golf course. That’s right, I said golf course. Since these vast open areas are just covered in fresh powdery snow, what a better way to make use of the untouched land.
2.) Geneva National is also located just outside of downtown Lake Geneva. Downtown is where you can find great shopping, dining, ice fishing, snow sculptures and much more. Be sure to visit the Lake Geneva Chamber website for a full list of area events and attractions this winter at www.lakegenevawi.com.

3.) Just on the other side of town is the Grand Geneva Resort which offers downhill skiing and snowboarding equipped with a ski lift. Spend a day on the mountain top and a relaxing afternoon in the Geneva National Community on the golf courses and nature trails. Fun for the whole family!
4.) Not a snow bunny? Abbey Springs Resort Community in Fontana offers the amenities of a newly renovated club house which includes an indoor pool, arcade, restaurants, and fitness center.
5.) Planning a great girl’s only getaway weekend? The Abbey Springs Community is a short drive from The Abbey Hotel and Avani Spa. Book your treatments along with lunch for a day at the spa and return to your vacation rental back at Abbey Springs for a relaxing evening. A fully stocked kitchen is waiting for you along with all the other comforts of home. Ask about our Personal Chef services!
6.) For more information about area rentals visit us online at www.KeefeRentals.com.
So when planning your winter stays in the Geneva Lakes areas, don’t forget about the great opportunities that lie within the area golf resort communities. We can’t wait to see you there!

Southeastern Wisconsin Rentals - December 2010

Looking to sell a house in Lake Geneva, Fontana, Williams Bay or any other part of Walworth County? There are folks that would love to be a homeowner today, but they have various issues that are keeping them from signing on an offer to purchase.
Why are they shying away from a mortgage commitment if they can pay a rental amount equal or greater to paying a loan? A twist of fate in many cases!
Think about the folks that are relocating from another part of the country, and their home has not sold as an example.
Drastic changes in the banking requirements are also holding back would be buyers as well. They need to accumulate a larger down payment. Why not capture that renter now?
You – as the seller have not had any real interest in the price range you are listed. What if you offer your home as a lease with option or a land contract? I have several instances that have paid off for the renter – would be buyer- as well as the owner – the someday soon seller.
Another scenario is the long term home buyer. For example, I have a real estate investor that took advantage of a foreclosure home in Elkhorn that was solid all around. The previous market history indicates that this location, size, and style will give a good return on the investment down the road. The property was under refurbishment, and we got a signed 2 year lease. The renter will be converting to a lease with option to purchase within 6 months, and we have every indication that they will be a buyer before the rental term is complete. A pre-sold buyer that has given you a paying asset – now there is a concept worth exploring!
As of June 2010 Keefe Real Estate has 40 successful placements to date, and I have just penned my 12th for the year. Call me to provide a rate assessment, find the ideal place, or just chat about the rental market in general.

Benefits of using the experts: explore how Keefe Resort Rentals can service you better!
![]() |
As you search for the perfect vacation rental property for your next vacation, consider the following when making the final decision; is an individual owner or a Professional Rental Management Company better able to service your rental needs?
The following are reasons why a professional rental property management company is the best choice in planning for your trip:
- Year round availability which includes holidays, major events as well as peak vacation weeks.
- Reservation Specialists who can assist you with a customized search of the best available property matches for your stay.
- There are more property options that you can choose from with a property management company. (Over 75 unique properties with Keefe Resort Rentals).
- Reviews and Testimonials from past guests available to view online.
- Professionally cleaned and managed properties with staff available on-call 24/7 throughout your stay.
- Concierge services to make your stay a memorable occasion.
Here is why renting from an individual owner can make for a difficult and unpleasant experience:
- Double bookings that make your vacation rental no longer available for your planned trip.
- Unsecure payment methods and scams.
- Homes that do not meet the standard of health and safety codes.
- Properties are not fully stocked with the essentials to feel like you are at home such as; anything from linens and toiletries to a wine opener.
- Individual owners may not be available 24/7 for your needs and may not be responsive if there is a problem with the rental.
The Keefe Resort Rentals team looks forward to assisting you with your next stay here in the Geneva Lakes area and provided these additional services for you and your guests! Also, http://www.discovervacationhomes.com has more great tools when looking for your vacation rentals across the globe.

Lake Geneva Wisconsin Rentals - Moving Fast!
Spring has sprung in the Southeastern part of our state, and the rental market is really heating up. Rental properties that have been vacant for months are now occupied, and the demand is only increasing.
I am not talking about your average two bedroom, two bath property either. There are inquiries for upscale three to four bedroom homes for one to two year leases that are willing to pay a premium.
Why is someone willing to pay as much for a mortgage as for a rental? There are a variety of reasons. For example, I just found a rental property for some folks that are relocating from another part of the country, and they have not chosen a favorite area to make a major decision. They have literally bought themselves a year to get to know the options and make an informed choice. Another family I have been working with sold their home in another part of the state, and they are relocating to Walworth County. They are going to take advantage of some really great construction prices, and they will be breaking ground in about a month for their new home. There are other folks that just need a place for their family to regroup from tremendous financial stress. This candidate may be interested in talking about a lease with option or rent to own if you are a seller!
Remember the spring market is here, there are folks looking to move, and you can put yourself in a minority category if you are willing to be creative.
